Chashme Baddoor was released in 1989 and it is a fantasy comedy that deals with the story of an insane man who woke up to find himself covered in bandages. He is told that he was an experiment to create a new human being with genius-level intelligence. The film follows him on his quest for revenge on the people who put him through this ordeal. In its mixed commercial and critical reception, the film gained cult status among its fans for its outlandish plot and cameos from popular Indian actors such as Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Karishma Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Kiran Rao. Amjad Khan plays the protagonist in the film, while the supporting cast includes Shakti Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Farah Naaz, Deepak Tijori and Neelam. The music was composed by Ravindra Jain with lyrics by Indeevar. The story is about Abbas (Amjad Khan) who claims to be a doctor in Africa, but is actually an insane man who is kept in an asylum for 20 years until one day he escapes and finds himself on a train to Delhi. He discovers that Dr. Bhatia (Naseeruddin Shah) and his wife (Neelam) did experiments on him which caused his memory loss and he is released from the asylum. On reaching Delhi, Abbas begins to search for the doctor who was responsible for his imprisonment; settling on him as a lot of things happen around him which lead Abbas to believe that Dr. Bhatia had done experiments on him, like making him lose his memory and making it seem like he is an extremist while Dr. Bhatia is actually a progressive man who believes in freedom of expression. Anil Kapoor is a filmmaker who believes in making films without any moral values, which Dr. Bhatia opposes. Naseeruddin Shah's widowed daughter-in-law Farah Naaz is in love with Abbas but Abbas has no use of women as he doesn't have feelings for anyone. Anupam Kher is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who hates Abbas for being an extremist and hates Dr. Bhatia for his progressive ways, but he falls in love with Neelam's daughter Sushmita (Karishma Kapoor) who is next to impossible to please, especially when she sees Anupam holding a book by Karl Marx. Jackie Shroff plays an image consultant who sees Abbas as a threat to his business. Before the film's release, there was news that Jackie Shroff would be reprising his role of Dharamvir Singh from "Khud-Daar" (1987). However, in an interview, Jackie confessed that he did not know about this news before the film's release. Though he did not appear in the film, Shroff's voice can be heard during the scene where Abbas uses Dharamvir Singh's image to gain power. cfa1e77820
